Harding Men's Golf Fifth after Round 1 at Regionals

FINDLAY, Ohio – Harding men's golf, making its second straight appearance in the NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Regional, concluded the first of three rounds at the par-72-, 6,722-yard Findlay Country Club, in fifth place at 3 over.

Harding's first round score of 291 was tied for its fifth-best round of the season. Tiffin, located in Tiffin, Ohio, and a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, leads the 20-team field at 7-under 281. Indianapolis is second at 1-under 287, followed by Bellarmine (+1, 289) and Missouri-St. Louis (+3, 290).

"I'm pretty happy with 3 over," Harding head coach Dustin Howell said. "Our goal was level par, but we are certainly in the hunt."

Harding sophomore Gregor MacIntosh made four birdies in the first round and is tied for sixth at 2-under 70. MacIntosh is just three strokes back of leader Logan Price of Tiffin. Harding senior Mason Banger is tied for 21st with 1-over 73.

The top five teams and the two highest individuals not on a qualifying team in the Central/Midwest Regional will advance to the NCAA Championship on May 21-25 in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

Harding's golfers will beginning teeing off Tuesday at 8:20 a.m. in Round 2.

"We are out early and will try to shoot a red number (under par) and get in the final group for Wednesday," Howell said.
