Volleyball Comes up Short Saturday in Two Five Set Matches

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Harding volleyball team fell to Wisconsin-Parkside 3-2 (27-25, 19-25, 17-25, 25-18, 15-10) and Winona State 3-2 (21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-17, 15-10) Saturday on the final day of the UINDY Tournament.

Harding moves to 4-4 on the season.

Wisconsin-Parkside improves to 2-5 and Winona State improves to 3-5.

WISCONSIN-PARKSIDE MATCH

FIRST SET

Harding had set point, 25-24 but Wisconsin-Parkside scored three straight points to win the set 27-25.

SECOND SET

Harding took a 5-1 lead in the second set until Wisconsin-Parkside went on a 4-1 run to trail 6-5. The Lady Bisons answered back with an 8-3 run to lead 14-8. Harding won the set 25-19.

THIRD SET

Harding started the third set with a 4-0 run. After Wisconsin-Parkside pulled within one 6-5, Harding went on a 10-4 run to lead 16-9. The Lady Bisons won the set 25-17.

FOURTH SET

Wisconsin-Parkside took a 7-2 lead in the fourth set until Harding battled back to pull within one 10-9. The team exchanged runs until Wisconsin-Parkside took a 24-17 lead on an 8-2 run. After a kill, Wisconsin-Parkside won 25-18.

FIFTH SET

Wisconsin-Parkside took an 11-6 lead in the fifth set. Harding rallied to pull within three, 13-10 but back-to-back kills gave Wisconsin-Parkside the victory.

STATS

Harding

-          Harding had 59 kills in the match with three players in double-figures. Madison Poen led the Lady Bisons with 12 kills, Emma Reeves had 11 and Zoe Hardin had 10.

-          Madison Poen captured a double-double with 17 digs.

-          Harding had five players in double-figure digs. Taylor Lake led Harding with 20.

-          Rachel Heussner captured a double-double with 44 assists and 18 digs.

Wisconsin-Parkside

-          Lexie Calloway had 19 kills and four digs for Wisconsin-Parkside.

-          Ann Leo led the defense with 33 digs.

WINONA STATE MATCH

FIRST SET

Trailing 4-1 in the first set, Harding went on a 10-3 run to lead 11-6. Winona State battled back to pull within three 23-21 but the Lady Bisons won the next two points to win the set 25-21. Harding had 17 kills in the set.

SECOND SET

Harding took a 10-6 advantage in the second set until Winona State went on a 10-4 run to lead 16-15. Winona State went on to win 25-20.

THIRD SET

Winona State led 14-6 in the third set until Harding went on a 19-9 run to win the set 25-23. Harding again had 17 kills in the set.

FOURTH SET

Harding led 10-9 in the fourth set until Winona State went on a 13-4 run to lead 22-14. The Lady Bisons won the next three points but Winona State scored the next three points to win 25-17.

FIFTH SET

Harding jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fifth set. Winona State battled back to take an 8-6 lead. The Lady Bisons didn't get any closer than one the rest of the way as Winona State won 15-10.

STATS

Harding

-          Zoe Hardin led Harding with a season-high 18 kills. She also had four blocks.

-          Emily Smith had 12 kills and Madison Poen captured a double-double with 11 digs and a season-high 20 digs. She also had six blocks.

-          Rachel Heussner captured a double-double with a season-high 52 assists and had 11 digs.

-          Taylor Lake led the defense with a season-high 32 digs.

-          Harding's 105 digs was a season-high.

Winona State

-          Megan Flom led Winona State with 25 kills and hit .327.

-          Bre Maloney had 50 assists and 13 digs.

-          Becca Pagel led the defense with 32 digs.

UP NEXT

Harding will travel to Pensacola, Florida next weekend to take part in the West Florida Tournament. The Lady Bisons will play three matches starting with Lee Friday at 10 a.m. They then will play host team West Florida that night at 7 p.m., and wrap up the tournament against Spring Hill Saturday at 10 a.m.
