Fourth-Quarter Shutdown Leads to Harding Victory

SEARCY – Harding held Southeastern Oklahoma without a bucket for the last eight minutes of the game and defeated the Savage Storm 63-53 Thursday at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Southeastern's Alexis Robinson made a 3-pointer with 8:16 left to tie the game at 50-50, but Harding forced nine straight missed shots down the stretch and ended the game on a 13-3 run.

The victory was Harding's seventh in eight home games this season and boosted the Lady Bisons to 13-6 overall and 8-5 in the GAC. Harding has won four straight at home against Southeastern, who fell to 10-7 overall and 8-5 in conference. Harding and Southeastern Oklahoma are tied with Henderson State for fourth in the GAC standings.

Harding entered the game as the nation's leader in rebound margin and outrebounded Southeastern Oklahoma 59-29. The Lady Bisons had 21 offensive rebounds that led to 16 second-chance points.

Kellie Lampo and Cheyenne Brown both had double-doubles for Harding. Lampo led the team with 19 points and 13 rebounds, and Brown had 15 points and a season-high 11 rebounds. It was Lampo's sixth double-double and Brown's first. Carissa Caples made three of Harding's five 3-pointers and scored 14 points.

Katie Webb, the GAC's leading scorer, topped Southeastern with 20 points on 5-of-23 shooting. She made 10-of-14 from the free-throw line.

Southeastern played without two injured starters, Kamryn Cantwell and Katie Branham. The Savage Storm, the top 3-point shooting team in the conference, made nine 3s and only seven 2s.

Both teams shot 30 percent from the field.

Southeastern weathered an 11-0 Harding run, made four 3-pointers, and led 19-15 after the first quarter.

Harding outscored Southeastern 18-10 in the second quarter and led 33-29 at the break. Both teams scored 13 points in the third quarter, and Harding led 46-42 entering the fourth.

Harding plays the second of three straight home games Saturday, hosting East Central, who lost 64-56 at Arkansas Tech on Thursday.
