SEARCY – Melanie Spurgeon scored her first career hat-trick as the Harding women's soccer team shutout Southern Nazarene 3-0 Thursday in Great American Conference action.
The Lady Bisons improve to 3-4-1 on the season and 2-0-0 in the GAC.
Southern Nazarene falls to 2-5-1 overall and 0-2-0 in the GAC.
GOALS
Harding 1, Southern Nazarene 0 – 18th minute – Amelia Lewis took a shot that was saved by the goalkeeper but Melanie Spurgeon got the rebound and found the back of the net.
Harding 2, Southern Nazarene 0 – 47th minute – Emma Welch hit a cross from the left side to Melanie Spurgeon for the tap in goal.
Harding 3, Southern Nazarene 0 – 82nd minute – McKenna Moore sent a cross from the right side to Melanie Spurgeon who found the back of the net from 18 yards out.
STATS
It was the first time in her career Melanie Spurgeon has scored multiple goals in a game.
Harding had 20 shots in the game. Spurgeon led the Lady Bisons with eight shots, six were on goal.
Southern Nazarene took 19 shots, nine were on goal.
Jessica Woessner, the reigning GAC Goalkeeper of the Week, picked up her second-straight shutout with a career-high 13 saves. It was her third shutout of the season.
