Polius Posts 20 to Lead Harding to Victory over Ecclesia

SEARCY – Harding scored the first 16 points of the game Tuesday and junior Joel Polius scored a career-high 20 points in an 84-58 victory over Ecclesia at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

The victory was Harding's fourth straight at home and gave the Bisons a 4-3 record on the season. Harding is off until Dec. 7, when it hosts Henderson State in Great American Conference play.

Ecclesia, a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association, lost its eighth straight and fell to 1-12. It was Harding's 36th consecutive victory over a non-NCAA opponent.

Polius had seven points during Harding's 16-0 run to open the game, including a three-point play on the Bisons's first possession.

Ecclesia missed its first 11 shots and did not score until Joey Gobert hit a 3-pointer from the corner with 12:00 left in the half.

Harding shot 50% from the field in the first half and led 41-24 at the break.

Ecclesia rallied early in the second half, and a 3-pointer from Drew Cone with 16:42 left cut Harding's lead to 43-33. The Bisons answered with a 7-0 run and outscored the Royals 18-4 over the next five minutes.

Harding led by as many as 33 late.

Harding controlled the lane throughout the game, outscoring Ecclesia 52-18 in the paint. Harding had a 52-28 rebound advantage.

Polius did most of the damage inside, hitting 9 of 11 shots and grabbing nine rebounds. Romio Harvey added 16 points, and Gabriel Divic made four of Harding's seven 3-pointers for a season-high 12 points.

The Bisons had their best defensive outing of the season, allowing a season-low 58 points and limiting Ecclesia to only 31% from the field, the lowest by a Harding opponent this season.

Zachary McGee made six 3-pointers and led Ecclesia with 18 points.
