Harding Baseball Falls 12-6 to Mississippi College in Season Opener

SEARCY – Mississippi College hit three home runs, including a three-run, first-inning blast from Billy Cameron, and defeated Harding 12-6 in the season opener for both teams Friday at Jerry Moore Field.

The teams conclude the three-game series Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

Cameron, Chauncey Callier and Ty Alderman each homered for the Choctaws. Alderman's two-run home run in the fourth gave Mississippi College a 6-5 lead. Harding tied the game in the bottom of the inning on Nolan Fertig's RBI single.

The Choctaws took the lead for good with two more runs in the fifth off Harding starter Austin Allen (0-1). Allen allowed eight earned runs over five innings and took the loss. Brian Tims and Ty Hoecker both worked two innings of relief.

Harding had 11 hits with two each from Fertig, Luke Van Dover and Jack Thomas.

The Bisons got to Choctaw starter Chris Crosby for two runs in the second and three in the third, but struggled against reliever Zack Ingram.

Harding scored its only run against Ingram in the fourth to tie the game, but Ingram (1-0) tied a career high with nine strikeouts and held the Bisons scoreless over his last five innings of work.

Callier led the Mississippi College attack, going 4-for-5 with two runs, an RBI and a home run.
