Harding Blows Past Arkansas Tech, Remains Second in GAC Standings

RUSSELLVILLE – Harding sophomore Kellie Lampo scored 24 points, and the Lady Bisons showed off the Great American Conference's top-ranked defense in a 72-48 victory over Arkansas Tech Thursday at Tucker Coliseum.

With the victory, Harding improved to 17-6 overall and remained in a three-way tie for second in the GAC at 12-5. It was Harding's fourth win all-time in Russellville, all since 2012. Tech fell to 10-13 overall and 7-10 in conference. The Golden Suns are 6-6 in Russellville.

Harding scored 11 straight points in the second quarter to push a 19-15 lead to a 30-15 advantage. Carissa Caples started the run with a 3-pointer, Kellie Lampo nailed a jumper followed by two Kennedy Cooper free throws. Cheyenne Brown scored the final four points of the run. Tech's Ryann Goodsell made a layup, but Harding answered with a 3 from Amanda Kearney and another Brown layup to take a 35-17 just before halftime.

The Lady Bisons pushed the lead over 20 on a Kearney 3-pointer with 8:24 left in the third quarter to take a 41-19 lead. Arkansas Tech never got within 20 points the rest of the game.

Harding limited Tech to only 25 percent shooting and had a 56-39 rebound margin. Lady Bison opponents averaged only 60.5 points per game, and Harding held Arkansas Tech to fewer than 50 for only the fourth time in the 73-game series.

Lampo was 8-of-14 from the field and made both of her 3-point attempts. Brown added 16 points, and Caples scored 15. Cooper had a team-high 14 rebounds.

Hannah Villines was the only Tech player in double figures with 11 points.

Harding is back at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House Saturday for a clash with Henderson State, one of two other teams tied for second place in the conference standings.
