Softball Sweeps Southern Nazarene; Berry Gets Win 200

BETHANY, Okla. – The Harding softball team swept Southern Nazarene Friday in Great American Conference action. The Lady Bisons won 12-2 and 6-4. Head coach Phil Berry also picked up his 200th collegiate victory.

Harding improves to 18-12 overall and 10-8 in the GAC.

Southern Nazarene falls to 15-14 overall and 10-8 in the GAC.

 

Game One Key Innings (Harding 12, Oklahoma Baptist 2)

-         Southern Nazarene got on the board first in the bottom of the first scoring two runs on three hits.

-         Harding took the lead in the fourth scoring five runs on six hits. Kyndal Pirtle drove in two runs and Amanda Fields, Lauren Bazan and Madison Leggett each drove in a run.

-         Briley Feringa added a run onto Harding's total when she hit a solo home run to left field. It was her fourth of the season.

-         The Lady Bisons added two more runs in the sixth off of three hits. Kyndal Pirtle tripled in a run and Hanna Jones singled in a run.

-         Harding made it 12-2 in the seventh scoring four runs off of three hits. Mason McCord and Peyton Mills each singled in two runs.

Game One Key Statistics

-         Harding had a season high 14 hits with Peyton Mills leading the way with three. Kyndal Pirtle, Hanna Jones and Amanda Fields each had two.

-         Southern Nazarene had eight hits with Mahina Sauer and Riley Brown each having two.

-         Jenna Hipp got the complete game win to improve to 7-3 on the season. She allowed two earned runs and struck out four.

-         Brooklyn Sparkman received the loss for Southern Nazarene and falls to 10-3 on the season.

 

Game Two Key Innings (Harding 6, Southern Nazarene 4)

-         Harding got things started in the first when Briley Feringa singled in a run.

-         Southern Nazarene tied the game in the second off of two hits. Reilly Schlarb singled in the run for the Crimson Storm.

-         Southern Nazarene took a 3-1 lead in the third scoring two runs off of three hits and a Harding error. Skye Ah Yat had the only RBI in the inning.

-         Harding pulled within one 3-2 in the fourth when Madison Leggett hit a solo home run to left field. It was her third of the season.

-         The Lady Bisons took the lead in the fifth scoring two runs off of two hits and an error. Briley Feringa and Amanda Fields each singled in a run.

-         Harding went up 5-3 in the sixth when Mary Mills Lochala scored on a wild pitch.

-         The Lady Bisons took a 6-3 lead in the seventh when Lochala hit a sacrifice fly that scored Peyton Mills.

-         Southern Nazarene got a run back in the seventh when Caitlyn Curlee hit a sacrifice fly. With a runner at third and two outs, Harding got out of the inning when the Crimson Storm fouled out.

Game Two Key Statistics

-         Harding had nine hits with Briley Feringa going 3-for-3.

-         Southern Nazarene had 10 hits led by Kaley Knox who went 3-for-4.

-         Harding had five stolen bases in the game.

-         Kymberlyn Baldwin got the win for Harding in relief. She improves to 4-1 on the season. She threw four innings, gave up one earned run and two hits.

-         Emma Dwyer got the save for Harding. She now has eight on the season. She pitched an inning, and didn't give up a hit or a run.

-         Caitlin Lewis received the loss for Southern Nazarene. She falls to 2-5 on the season. She pitched 4 2/3 innings, gave up two earned runs and four hits.

Next Up

-          The two teams will wrap up their series Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon.
