ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Harding softball team split a Great American Conference doubleheader at Henderson State Saturday. The Lady Bisons won the first game 4-0 but dropped the second game 4-1.
The two teams split the series after splitting the doubleheader on Friday.
The Lady Bisons remain in third place in the GAC standings with one weekend left in the regular season. After Saturday's results, Harding sealed a spot in the GAC Tournament May 1-4 in Bentonville, Arkansas. The Lady Bisons will know what seed they will be after next weekend's games.
Harding moves to 32-20 overall and 24-16 in the GAC.
Henderson State moves to 25-27 overall and 19-21 in the GAC.
Game One Key Innings (Harding 4, Henderson State 0)
- The Lady Bisons scored all of their runs in the first inning off of two hits. Briley Feringa hit a single through the left side that scored Kyndal Pirtle for the first run. Amanda Fields walked with the bases loaded for the second. Hanna Jones hit a sacrifice fly to score Peyton Mills for the third run and Lauren Bazan hit a single to left center that scored Feringa.
Game One Key Statistics
- Harding had six hits in the game by six different players.
- Henderson State had four hits by four different players.
- Jenna Hipp picked up the win to improve to 15-6 on the season. It was her third shutout and her 11th complete game. Hipp also had four strikeouts in the game.
- Monica Monreal received the loss and falls to 1-2 on the season.
Game Two Key Innings (Henderson State 4, Harding 1)
- Henderson State took a 1-0 lead in the first off a run and a Harding error. Abbie Moore hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Madie Green.
- Peyton Mills tied the game for Harding when she led off the fourth with a solo home run. It was her fourth of the season and the 31st of her career.
- The Reddies answered back with a run on two hits and a Harding error in the bottom of the inning when Christianna Camp scored on the error.
- Henderson State took a 4-1 lead in the sixth scoring two runs on a hit.
Game Two Key Statistics
- Henderson State had five hits led by Christianna Camp who went 2-for-3.
- Harding had three hits, two by Peyton Mills.
- The Lady Bisons had three errors in the game.
- Michelle Sorensen got the win for Henderson State to improve to 11-8. She went the distance, gave up the earned run and struck out three.
- Pyper James received the loss for Harding to fall to 7-8 on the season. She pitched five innings and faced 24 batters.
Next Up
- Harding will play its final GAC series of the regular season next weekend when it travels to Arkansas-Monticello. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday.
