Softball Comes Up Short in Doubleheader at Arkansas-Monticello

Monticello, Ark.  – The Harding softball team fell 8-6 and 4-2 in a Great American Conference doubleheader at Arkansas-Monticello Friday.

The Lady Bisons are tied for third place with Southeastern Oklahoma in the GAC standings with two games left in the regular season. Harding has already sealed a spot in the GAC Tournament May 1-4 in Bentonville, Arkansas. The Lady Bisons will know what seed they will be after Saturday's doubleheader.

Harding falls to 32-22 overall and 24-18 in the GAC.

Arkansas-Monticello improves to 26-25 overall and 19-24 in the GAC.

Game One Key Innings (Arkansas-Monticello 8, Harding 6)

-         Harding jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Lindsey Duncan singled in Kyndal Pirtle.

-         Arkansas-Monticello tied the game in the second when Haley Godeaux hit a solo home run to left field.

-         Harding took a 4-1 lead in the fourth scoring three runs on four hits. Amanda Fields hit a two-run home run to left that scored Peyton Mills. It was her 10th home run of the season. Madison Leggett singled in Hanna Jones for the another run.

-         The Blossoms cut the lead to 4-2 in the fourth when Kali Bolter grounded out to second that scored Haley Godeaux.

-         Arkansas-Monticello took the lead in the fifth scoring three runs on five hits. Godeaux highlighted the inning with a two RBI double.

-         The Blossoms made it 8-4 in the sixth scoring three runs on four hits.

-         Harding got two runs back in the seventh but left the bases loaded.

Game One Key Statistics

-         Arkansas-Monticello had 13 hits led by Haley Godeaux who went 4-for-4 with three RBI.

-         Harding had 11 hits led by Peyton Mills who went 3-for-4.

-         Lindsey Duncan and Amanda Fields each had two RBIs in the game.

-         Hannah Hutson got the win for the Blossoms to improve to 3-1. She pitched two innings of relief and struck out three.

-         Jenna Hipp received the loss for Harding and falls to 15-7 on the season. She pitched four innings and struck out four.

 

Game Two Key Innings (Arkansas-Monticello 4, Harding 2)

-         Harding took a 1-0 lead in the first when Peyton Mills doubled in Kyndal Pirtle.

-         Arkansas-Monticello tied the game at one when Haley Godeauz doubled in Sierra Gasca.

-         The Blossoms broke the tie in the third and took a 3-1 lead scoring two runs on four hits.

-         Arkansas-Monticello went up 4-1 in the fifth when Haley Cornell doubled in Sierra Gasca.

-         Harding got a run in the top of the seventh when Madison Leggett hit a double to left field that scored Hanna Jones.

Game Two Key Statistics

-         Each team had eight hits in the game.

-         Arkansas-Monticello was led by Sierra Gasca who went 2-for-2.

-         Harding was led by Peyton Mills who went 2-for-3.

-         Hayley McGhee went the distance and got the win for the Blossoms. She is now 10-11 on the season. She had seven strikeouts in the game.

-         Pyper James received the loss and falls to 7-9 on the season.

Next Up

-          The two teams will play their regular season finale with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m., Saturday.
