WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Harding softball team pushed its win streak to six games Friday after sweeping Southwestern Oklahoma in a Great American Conference doubleheader. Harding won 3-2 and 6-1.
In game two, Peyton Mills hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to break the Harding career home run record. Mills passed Kimmy Hendricks and Amanda Berdon who each hit 28 in their careers.
Harding improves to 26-14 overall and 18-10 in the GAC.
Southwestern Oklahoma falls to 11-26 overall and 10-18 in the GAC.
Game One Key Innings (Harding 3, Southwestern Okla. 2)
- Southwestern Oklahoma broke the 0-0 tie in the third scoring a run on two hits. Hannah Morris hit a single up the middle to score Keanni Barron from second.
- Harding took a 2-1 lead in the fourth when Briley Feringa hit a two-run home run down the left field line. It was her sixth of the season.
- Southwestern Oklahoma tied the game in the fourth scoring a run on two hits. Allyson Gafford hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Hannah Franklin.
- Harding scored the eventual game winning run in the sixth when Amanda Fields drove in Hanna Jones.
Game One Key Statistics
- Harding had five hits with Peyton Mills leading the way with two.
- Southwestern Oklahoma had seven hits with Hannah Morris and Hannah Franklin each having two.
- Jenna Hipp went the distance and got the win for Harding to improve to 11-4 on the season. It was her seventh complete game of the season. She gave up two earned runs and struck out four.
- Alisa Friesen received the loss for Southwestern Oklahoma and falls to 4-10 on the season. She gave up three earned runs and struck out two.
Game Two Key Innings (Harding 6, Southwestern Okla. 1)
- Harding jumped out the gate scoring two runs on three hits in the first inning. Peyton Mills and Briley Feringa each singled in a run.
- Harding made it 3-0 in the fourth when Lauren Bazan hit a single to center field that scored Allison Hyatt.
- Peyton Mills led off the sixth inning with her record breaking solo home run to right center field. It was her third of the season and the 29th of her career.
- Southwestern Oklahoma scored its only run in the sixth when Hanna Morris walked with the bases loaded.
- Peyton Mills wasn't done. In the seventh inning she drove in two runs when she hit a double to center field.
Game Two Key Statistics
- Harding had nine hits. Peyton Mills went 3-for-4 and Hanna Jones and Briley Feringa each had two hits.
- It was Mills first four RBI game of the season. It was her 10th multiple RBI game of the season.
- Southwestern Oklahoma had eight hits with Hannah Morris going 2-for-3.
- Pyper James got the win for the Lady Bisons to improve to 7-5. She went 4 1/3 innings and didn't give up an earned run.
- Emma Dwyer picked up her 10th save of the season which leads all of NCAA Division II. She pitched 2 2/3 innings and had two strikeouts.
- Kaytlin Donaldson received the loss for the Bulldogs and falls to 5-13 on the season.
