Harding Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Williams Baptist

SEARCY – Harding baseball bounced back from a 6-4 loss to Williams Baptist in game one of a doubleheader with a 12-8 victory in game two to split a nonconference doubleheader Tuesday at Jerry Moore Field.

Harding moved to 24-15 following Tuesday's games and continues Great American Conference action Friday and Saturday at Ouachita Baptist. Harding enters the weekend in fourth place with three series remaining. The top six teams reach the GAC Tournament beginning May 4.

Williams Baptist, an NAIA school located in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, moved to 12-23.

Game 1
Williams Baptist scored three runs in the second inning to take a 4-1 lead that they did not relinquish.

Harding scored single runs in each of the first three innings and another in the fifth but never held the lead in the game.

Miles Humphreys and David Butterfield each had two of Harding's eight hits and both had an RBI.

Williams Baptist had four extra-base hits in their 12-hit attack. Colton Dunbar was 3-for-4 with a double to lead the Eagles.

Kaden Kirby (2-2) started for Harding and allowed four runs in 1 2/3 innings. Nick Bowers relieved and allowed two earned runs on six hits over 3 1/3 innings before Matt Sherry pitched 2.0 scoreless innings to finish the game.

Williams Baptist reliever Charlie McClure (2-1) allowed two runs over four innings to earn the win.

Game 2
Harding scored nine of its 12 runs in the first two innings to open a big lead early in game two. The Bisons scored four in the first and five more in the second.

Three Williams Baptist pitchers combined for six walks, four hit batters and seven wild pitches.

Harding needed only eight hits to score 12 runs. Humphreys and Nolan Fertig each had two hits, and Fertig scored four runs, becoming only the second Harding player this season to score four times in a game.

Dylan Adcock (1-1) collected his first win as a Bison. He pitched four innings and gave up three earned runs with two strikeouts. Carter McCall, Sherry and Brian Tims each pitched an inning of relief.

Williams Baptist starter David Sawyer (0-2) took the loss, allowing six earned runs in 1 2/3 innings. Layne Ditto homered and went 3-for-4 to lead the Eagles.
