Harding Baseball Falls 4-0 to UAM at GAC Tournament

ENID, Okla. – Harding senior lefthander Tanner Smith held Arkansas-Monticello's offense scoreless through five innings before the Weevil shortstop Dylan Borman hit a three-run home run with two outs in the sixth to key a 4-0 win Saturday in the first game of the Great American Conference Tournament.

Harding (31-20) will play Southern Arkansas Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Arkansas-Monticello (32-12) plays the loser of the Arkansas Tech and Southwestern Oklahoma game Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

Harding swept the regular season series against the Weevils, but never got the bats going against Arkansas-Monticello junior right-hander Hunter Huckabee, who remained undefeated at 7-0 on the season. He held the Bisons without a run over 6 2/3 innings, allowing six hits, and ending Harding's five-game winning streak over the Weevils.

In the bottom of the sixth, Smith, a first-team All-GAC honoree who had the second best ERA in the conference entering the game, gave up a single and walk to put two runners on before Borman hit his ninth home run of the season over the wall in left.

Ben Brauss singled to lead off the seventh for Harding. Huckabee retired the next two hitters before giving way to reliever Ojani Chacon to get the last out of the inning.

Reliever Brian Tims came in to pitch for Harding in the top of the seventh. A walk and a single put runners at the corners, and David Reyna's single to center brought in the Weevils's fourth run.

Chacon allowed only one hit over the last 2 1/3 innings to earn his seventh save.

Harding had seven hits in the game, all singles. Brauss and Nolan Fertig were both 2-for-3. It was Fertig's team-leading 24th multi-hit game and the seventh for Brauss.

Arkansas-Monticello had 12 hits, led by Cade Thompson and Kaleb Warden with three each.
