Volleyball Splits Saturday at Pioneer Invitational

DENTON, Texas – The Harding volleyball team fell to Sioux Falls 3-0 (27-25, 25-23, 26-24) but finished strong with a sweep of Pace 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-17) Saturday on the final day of the Pioneer Invitational.

Harding moves to 5-3 on the season.

Sioux Falls improves to 8-0 and Pace falls to 0-7.

Freshmen Logan Smith and Kelli McKinnon were selected to the All-Tournament Team.

SIOUX FALLS MATCH

FIRST SET

With the first set tied at 24, Kelli McKinnon had a kill to put Harding on top 25-24. A kill and two Harding attack errors gave Sioux Falls to set, 27-25. Sioux Falls had 17 kills in the set.

SECOND SET

Sioux Falls took a 6-0 early lead in the second set. Trailing 23-19, Harding went on a 5-1 run to pull within one 24-23 but a kill gave Sioux Falls the victory.

THIRD SET

Harding jumped out to a 15-9 lead in the third set and had set point 24-23 but three straight kills by Sioux Falls gave them the 26-24 win. Sioux Falls had 14 kills in the set and forced 10 Harding attack errors.

STATS

Harding

-          Ally Stoner led Harding with 11 kills.

-          Arika Johnson had 21 assists.

-          Logan Smith had seven kills and led the defense with 14 digs.

-          Cooper Monn had five blocks for Harding.

-          Harding hit a season-low .084 in the match.

Sioux Falls

-          Abby Feyereisen had 14 kills and three blocks for Sioux Falls.

-          Kenzie Byers had 12 kills and five blocks.

-          Krista Goerger had 34 assists and 10 digs.

-          Allie Maloney led the defense with 13 digs.

-          Sioux Falls hit .189 in the match.

PACE MATCH

FIRST SET

Leading 12-7, Harding went on a 9-3 run on six kills to lead 22-10. Pace battled back to cut the lead to 23-19 but back-to-back points gave Harding the 25-19 set win.

SECOND SET

Leading 10-9 in the second set, Harding went on a 10-0 run on four blocks to lead 20-9. The Lady Bisons went on to win the set 25-16. Harding had 12 kills and hit .286 in the set.

THIRD SET

Trailing 9-6 in the third set, Harding went on a 9-1 run on six kills to lead 15-10. Leading 21-17, Harding scored the next four points on a block and two kills to win the set 25-17. Harding had 17 kills and hit .267 in the set.

STATS

Harding

-          Logan Smith led Harding with 12 kills.

-          Emily Smith added 10 kills.

-          Arika Johnson had 24 assists for Harding.

-          Katherine Cowart had 12 digs for the Lady Bisons.

Pace

-          Sandra Yang led Pace with eight kills.

-          Samantha Nidini and Emily Cockell each had seven digs.

UP NEXT

Harding will open Great American Conference action Tuesday when it hosts Arkansas Tech had 6 p.m., at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
