Volleyball Bounces Back to Split Matches Friday at HU Invitational

SEARCY – The Harding volleyball team fell to No. 17 Rockhurst 3-0 (25-12, 25-8, 25-21) but rebounded to beat Missouri S&T 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 25-20, 30-32, 15-9) Friday on the first day of the Harding Invitational.

Harding moves to 6-5 overall.

Rockhurst improves to 7-3 overall and Missouri S&T falls to 8-2 overall.

ROCKHURST MATCH

FIRST SET

Rockhurst opened the first set on a 9-1 run on three kills and three service aces. Rockhurst had four straight kills to win the set 25-12. Rockhurst hit .412 in the set.

SECOND SET

With the second set tied at two, Rockhurst went on a 14-2 run to lead 16-4. They went on to win the set 25-8. Rockhurst hit .429 in the set and had 14 kills.

THIRD SET

Trailing 16-7, Harding went on a 7-0 run to pull within two 16-14. Rockhurst went on to win the set 25-21. Logan Smith had four kills for Harding in the set.

-          Logan Smith led Harding with seven kills and seven digs.

-          Harding was held to hitting .059 in the match.

Rockhurst

-          Alyssa Woodman led Rockhurst with 11 kills.

-          Karli Reichert added 10 kills.

-          Dani Prusha had 37 assists for Rockhurst.

-          Jadyn Makovicka led the defense with 19 digs.

MISSOURI S&T MATCH

FIRST SET

Leading 16-14 in the first set, Missouri S&T went on a 9-2 run to lead 24-16. A kill by Emilee Schlader gave the Miners the set 25-19. Missouri S&T hit .206 in the set with 12 kills.

SECOND SET

Trailing 10-8 in the second set, Harding went on a 5-0 run to lead 13-10 on three kills. Trailing 23-22, the Lady Bisons had three straight kills, two by Amber Robin to win the set 25-23. Logan Smith and Alley Stoner each had four kills in the set for Harding.

THIRD SET

Trailing 13-9 in the third set, Harding went on a 6-0 run on three service aces to lead 15-13. The Lady Bisons held on to the lead and forced a service error and had a service aces to win the set 25-20.

FOURTH SET

Missouri S&T jumped out to 18-12 lead in the fourth set until Harding battled back and pulled within one 21-20 on an 8-3 run. Each team had set point until Missouri S&T and back-to-back kills to win the set 32-30. Harding hit .319 in the set with Logan Smith having seven kills.

FIFTH SET

Harding quickly jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the fifth set. Missouri S&T got within three, 9-6 but Harding went on a win the set 15-9. Harding hit .348 and held the Miners to hitting .038. Libby Hinton and Ally Stoner each had three kills in the set.

-          Logan Smith captured a season-high 20 kills and had 16 digs.

-          Harding had a season-high 82 digs in the match. Five players had double-figure digs.

-          Kinley Schnell had a season-high 20 digs to lead Harding. Katherine Cowart had 16 digs and Emma Winiger had a season-high 14 digs.

-          Sarah Morehead captured a double-double with a season-high 53 assists and 11 digs.

-          Harding had nine service aces in the match.

-          The Lady Bisons hit .245.

Missouri S&T

-          Payton Gannaway led the Miners with 19 kills.

-          Emilee Schlader had 16 kills and led the defense with 22 digs.

-          Lexi Netherlain had 20 digs for the Missouri S&T.

-          The Miners had 81 digs in the match.

UP NEXT

Harding will wrap up its invitational against Christian Brothers at 5 p.m., Saturday at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
