Lady Bison Soccer Opens GAC Play with Win Over Ouachita Baptist

SEARCY – The Harding women's soccer team opened Great American Conference play with a 1-0 victory over Ouachita Baptist Friday night at the Stevens Soccer Complex.

Harding is now 10-12-0 in conference openers.

The Lady Bisons improve to 2-4-1 on the season and 1-0-0 in the GAC.

Ouachita Baptist falls to 2-4-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the GAC.

GOALS

Harding 1, Ouachita Baptist 0 – 76th minute – Emma Welch took a corner kick that hit the head of Melanie Spurgeon who found the back of the net. It was her third of the season.

STATS

Ouachita Baptist had 22 shots, 10 were on goal. Josilyn Kispert led the Tigers with eight shots, three were on goal.

Harding had 16 shots, 10 were on goal. McKenzie Betancur led the Lady Bisons with five shots, two were on goal. Melanie Spurgeon had four shots, three were on goal.

Ouachita Baptist had 55% of the possession in the game.

Harding had nine shots in the box while Ouachita Baptist had 12 shots in the box.

Jessica Woessner had 10 save for Harding. It was the second time this season she has had 10 or more in a game. Woessner had 12 at Northeastern State.

Woessner, Michelle Morgan and Jad'n Nichols all played the full 90 minutes for Harding.

Harding will be back in action Thursday when it hosts Southern Nazarene in GAC play at 7 p.m.
