Kessler Breaks Weight Throw Record at UCM Invite

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Harding men's track and field scored 59.5 points and placed fourth of seven teams at the Central Missouri Invite Friday at UCM's Multipurpose Building. Senior Mitchell Kessler broke the school record in the weight throw and recorded an NCAA provisional mark. Junior Alex Hindman also cleared an NCAA provisional height in the pole vault. Below are Harding's highlights by event.
  • Track Events
    • 60-meter dash – Harding's top finisher was sophomore Will Meredith, 12th of 34 runners in 7.15 seconds.
    • 200-meter dash – Freshman Dakarai Bush earned six points with a third-place finish in 23.05.
    • 400-meter dash – Sophomore Kaleb Naceanceno placed 12th of 21 runners in 54.57 seconds.
    • 600-yard run – Junior Bryce Wiedower placed 19th in 1:20.90.
    • Mile – Freshman Jean-Louis Bouric earned one point for Harding with a sixth-place finish in 4:33.43.
    • 60-meter hurdles – Freshman Dakarai Bush recorded his first collegiate event victory, winning the finals in a season-best 8.45 seconds. Sophomore Garrett Watkins was sixth in 9.05. Bush ran 8.64 in the prelims with Watkins at 8.79.
    • 4x400-meter relay – Harding's team of Andrew Ashmore, Dakarai Bush, Jean-Luis Bouric and Matt Hipshire placed fourth in 3:28.37.
    • Distance Medley Relay – Harding's team of Jackson Pruim, Kaleb Naceanceno, Tyler Harrod and Kendall Townsley placed second in 11:29.07.
  • Field Events
    • High Jump – Sophomore Garrett Watkins tied for second by clearing 1.90 meters (6-02.75). Junior Matt Hipshire was sixth, clearing 1.75 meters (5-08.75). Harding scored eight points in the event.
    • Long Jump – Sophomore Garrett Watkins was Harding's top finisher. He placed fifth with a mark of 6.52 meters (21-04.75) on his fourth of six jumps.
    • Pole Vault – Junior Alex Hindman placed second with a clearance of 4.82 meters (15-09.75). It was an NCAA provisional height but was just off his season-best height of 4.85 meters. Freshman Ben Ferris placed fourth in his first collegiate meet, clearing 4.47 meters (14-08.00), and junior Matt Hipshire tied for sixth with a clearance of 3.97 meters (13-00.25). Harding scored 12.50 points in the event.
    • Shot Put – Freshman Wesley Shaw placed eighth with a throw of 15.04 meters (49-04.25).
    • Triple Jump – Freshman Britton Kinser placed fifth with a jump of 12.66 meters (41-06.50), and freshman Cedric Gable was sixth at 12.63 meters (41-05.25). Harding scored three points in the event.
    • Weight Throw – Senior Mitchell Kessler placed fourth with an NCAA provisional mark of 18.30 meters (60-00.50), breaking the Harding indoor record set by Harding throws coach Josh Syrotchen in 2016. Freshman Wesley Shaw's seventh-place throw of 15.31 meters (50-02.75) placed him third on Harding's indoor weight throw list behind only Kessler and Syrotchen.
