Harding Wins Fourth Straight, Downs Southwestern Oklahoma

SEARCY – Senior Cheyenne Brown had 19 points and 12 rebounds and made the eventual game-winning free throws with 20 seconds remaining to help Harding weather a Southwestern Oklahoma run and defeat the Bulldogs 64-63 Saturday in Great American Conference action.

Harding won its fourth straight to improve to 11-7 overall and 8-4 in conference games. Southwestern lost its third straight and fell to 12-6 overall and 7-5 in the GAC. The last time Southwestern lost three straight in the same season was in the 2015-16 season when it opened with four consecutive losses.

Harding led by 13 with 4:20 left in the game, but Southwestern went on a 15-2 run over the next three minutes and took a 63-62 lead on a Taber Beer layup with 25 seconds left. On Harding's next possession, Beer fouled Brown in the lane, and Brown nailed both free throws to put the Lady Bisons back ahead.

Both teams missed two free throws on fouls in the last 15 seconds, and Harding held on for the win when Peyton Padgett stole the ball with six seconds left and ran out the clock.

Harding led 18-16 after one quarter. The Lady Bisons shot 43% and limited the Bulldogs to 31%. Amanda Kearney had seven points in the quarter and Brown had six points and five rebounds.

Southwestern took a 33-30 lead into halftime. The Bulldogs made five shots in the second quarter but four of them were 3-pointers, and they outscored the Lady Bisons 17-12 in the period. Harding missed all seven of its 3-point attempts in the second quarter and shot 26%.

Harding held an 18-4 lead in the paint in the first half. Cheyenne Brown led Harding with 10 points in the half. Makyra Tramble led Southwestern with 11.

Southwestern missed its first 10 shots of the third quarter and shot 2 of 18 in the period. Harding took the lead on a 3-pointer from Jordan Elder and led 45-40 entering the fourth quarter.

Brown was a perfect 9 of 9 from the foul line and recorded her second double-double of the season. Jordan Elder made three of Harding's four 3-pointers and scored 13 points, and Kearney added 12 for her second straight game in double figures.

Freshman Makyra Trambel led Southwestern with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Lauren Ramey came off the bench and had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Beer added 13 points.

Saturday's game ended a perfect three-game home stand for Harding. The Lady Bisons head to Oklahoma Thursday to take on conference leader Southeastern Oklahoma in Durant.
