Harding Men's Tennis Wins Twice Friday in Spring Openers

PLANO, Texas – Harding men's tennis opened its spring season Saturday with a pair of victories at the Collin College tennis courts.

Harding opened the day with a 6-1 victory over Dallas Baptist, and added a second 5-2 victory over Collin, the No. 8-ranked junior college program in America.

In the opener, Harding swept the doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead and got singles wins from Morgan Salvan (No. 3) and Dani Ortiz (No. 2) before Bryce Walker clinched the win with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 6. Luis Tirado (No. 4) and Alvaro de Lorenzo (No. 5) also collecting singles wins.

Collin took the doubles point in the second match, but Harding won five of the six singles matches. Walker (No. 6), Ortiz (No. 2) and Salvan (No. 3) all won in straight sets before Tirado (No. 4) clinched with a 7-5, 6-0 win. De Lorenzo earned Harding's final point at No. 5.

After Friday's matches, Ortiz and de Lorenzo are tied for the team lead with six singles victories, including matches played in fall tournaments.

Harding plays its last match of the weekend Saturday against 15th-ranked Midwestern State. The match will be played at 2:30 p.m. at Collin College.

NOTE: The MIAA/GAC men's tennis preseason poll came out Friday with Harding selected third of five teams in the South Division.
