Second-Quarter Run Sends Harding Past Oklahoma Baptist, 83-58

SHAWNEE, Okla. – After a slow start, Harding shot 58% in the second quarter and pulled away to defeat Oklahoma Baptist 83-58 Thursday in Great American Conference play at the Noble Center. The point total matched Harding's best defensive effort of the season.

With the victory, Harding snapped a three-game road losing streak and improved to 7-6 overall and 4-3 in the GAC. Oklahoma Baptist lost its 14th straight GAC game and fell to 4-9 overall and 0-7 in conference. Harding has won eight of nine GAC meetings between the two teams.

Harding shot only 3 of 20 in the first quarter and trailed 17-11, but made 11 of 19 shots in the second quarter and took the lead for good on a Jacie Evans layup with 5:42 left before halftime. Harding opened the quarter on a 17-3 run. Harding outscored Oklahoma Baptist 25-13 in the second quarter and led 36-30 at halftime.

Harding extended its lead in the third, outscoring Oklahoma Baptist 24-13. Harding shot 50% in the period and limited Oklahoma Baptist to 29%.

Harding controlled the low post throughout, outscoring Oklahoma Baptist 48-24 in the lane and holding a 54-35 rebound advantage.

Carissa Caples and Kellie Lampo both had 13 points to lead Harding in scoring. Lampo added 12 rebounds for her GAC-leading sixth double-double of the season. Kennedy Cooper scored 12 points, and Jordan Elder had 11.

Ugochinyere Nwarie and Mckenzie Cooper both scored 14 to lead Oklahoma Baptist.

Harding is back in action Saturday at Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Oklahoma. Southern Nazarene defeated Arkansas Tech 64-46 Thursday in Bethany.
