Southern Nazarene 3-Point Spurt Sinks Harding

SEARCY – Southern Nazarene made six straight 3-pointers over a four-minute stretch in the second half to break open a close game and defeat Harding 85-65 Thursday in Great American Conference play at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Southern Nazarene (20-7, 14-5) won for the fifth time in its last six games and took over sole possession of first place with Southeastern Oklahoma's loss to Southern Arkansas. Harding fell to 8-17 overall and 3-16 in the GAC.

Harding trailed 47-45 after a Romio Harvey layup with 17:50 left in the game. Southern Nazarene then went on an 18-2 run that included two 3s from Micah Speight, three from Jhonathan Dunn and one from Maik Bouwer. Dunn's third 3-pointer of the run gave the Storm a 65-47 lead with 13:31 left. Harding got no closer than 15 points the rest of the way.

Dunn, the GAC's leading scorer, had 30 points on 11-of-17 shooting. Speight scored 17 points. He and Dunn both made five 3-pointers. Southern Nazarene had 15 3s as a team.

Harvey scored 14 points to lead Harding and surpassed the 500-point mark for the season. Jordan West had 13, and Emir Ahmedic scored 11.

Southern Nazarene shot 56% from the field and made half of its 3-point attempts. Harding shot 37% and made 19 of 21 free throws. The Bisons are 58 of 68 (85%) at the free-throw line over the last three games.

Harding plays its final home game of the season Saturday against Oklahoma Baptist. Tipoff is at 3 p.m. with a postgame ceremony to follow, honoring the team's seniors.
