Fourth-Quarter Run Sends Harding to Seventh Straight Victory

SEARCY – Harding scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter and shot 88% from the field in the period to pull away from Arkansas-Monticello for a 72-62 Great American Conference victory Thursday at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Harding's win was its seventh straight and kept the Lady Bisons in a four-way tie for first place in the GAC standings. Harding is 14-7 overall and 11-4 in conference. Arkansas-Monticello lost for the 11th consecutive time in Searcy and fell to 13-8 overall and 8-7 in the GAC.

Senior Cheyenne Brown led Harding with 20 points, her second 20-point game of the season. She was 7 of 14 from the field and made all six free-throw attempts. Kennedy Cooper scored 15 points, her highest total in her last 14 games, and Carissa Caples scored 12. Peyton Padgett led the team with 11 rebounds, her fourth game with more than 10 boards this season.

Brown had six straight points to open the fourth quarter, and Cooper hit a 3-pointer with 7:18 left to give Harding a 58-49 lead. Arkansas-Monticello did not score until Jaida Muhammed hit a jumper from the left wing with 4:40 left. The Blossoms got no closer than 10 the rest of the way.

Arkansas-Monticello used a 7-0 run to take a 43-42 lead with 3:16 left in the third quarter on a layup by Mekaylan Hicks. Harding regained the lead but a layup by Kayla Bradley at the buzzer sent the game to the fourth quarter tied at 49-49.

Harding led by 15 at 32-17 on the second of two straight 3-pointers from Jordan Elder, but Arkansas-Monticello closed the second quarter on an 8-0 run and trailed only 34-28 at halftime.

Harding limited Arkansas-Monticello to only 31% shooting in the first quarter and led 19-11, closing the quarter on an 11-2 run. The Lady Bisons held a 15-9 rebound advantage.

Paced by the strong fourth quarter, Harding shot 45% for the game, made 8 of 19 3-pointers and connected on 16 of 22 free throws.

Hicks led Arkansas-Monticello with 16 points.

Harding returns to action Saturday against Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia. The Tigers lost 73-64 to Arkansas Tech Thursday at home.
