Harding Men's Tennis Wins Fifth Straight, Defeats Rhodes 6-1

CONWAY, Ark. – Harding men's tennis ran its winning streak to five straight to open the season with a 6-1 victory over NCAA Division III opponent Rhodes College Friday in a neutral site match played indoors at the Hatcher Tennis Center.

Harding also won its first five dual matches last season. Friday's match was Rhodes's season opener. Harding improved to 16-2 all-time against Rhodes, winning its fifth straight in the series.

Harding earned the doubles point with wins in all three matches. Morgan Salvan and Alvardo de Lorenzo won 6-1 at No. 1. It was their second straight win and moved them to 3-1 as a team.

Arthur Bellan and Dani Ortiz won 6-4 at No. 2. The duo has won three of its four dual doubles matches as a team. Luis Tirado and Diego Pierola closed out doubles with a 7-5 win at No. 3. Tirado and Pierola have won their last two. They are 3-1 as a team.

Salvan gave Harding a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles, his fourth straight singles win to start the season and team-leading 44th career singles win.

A 6-2, 6-4 win by Dani Ortiz at No. 2 gave Harding a 3-0 lead. Ortiz is 4-0 in dual singles matches and is tied for the team lead with eight singles wins.

After a Rhodes win at No. 1 singles, Harding's Luis Tirado clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4. Tirado has won three of his four dual singles matches.

De Lorenzo (No. 5) and Walker (No. 6) added Harding's final two points. De Lorenzo is 4-0 in dual matches and has eight singles wins. Walker is 3-1 at No. 6 and 6-3 overall.

The Bisons will take on Montevallo Saturday in Memphis. The match will start at 11:30 a.m.
