Harding Baseball Blows Past Union, 14-2

JACKSON, Tenn. – Harding tied its season highs for runs and doubles Tuesday in a 14-2 nonconference victory over Union at Fesmire Baseball Field.

Harding won for the 12th time in its last 13 games and improved to 18-6 overall. Union, a member of the Gulf South Conference, fell to 8-13, losing for the sixth time in its last seven games.

Harding had 15 hits, including five in a six-run third inning that blew the game open.

Miles Humphreys went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBIs and two of Harding's five doubles. Brooks Pitaniello was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, his first career three-hit game.

Connor Kelly and Michael Chrisman each extended hitting streaks, Kelly to nine games and Chrisman to seven.

Harding used five pitchers, none going longer than two innings. Dylan Adcock (3-0) started and allowed two hits, leaving with a 1-0 lead. Joey Lawhorn pitched the next two, and Harding led 8-1 by the time he gave way to Tyler Turner, who pitched two scoreless innings. Chris Witzke pitched the seventh, and Brent Southerland finished the game, pitching the eighth and ninth.

Union starter Cooper Bullough (0-2) struggled through five innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits.

Patrick Music was the only Union player with two hits.

Harding returns to Great American Conference play this weekend, hosting conference leader Oklahoma Baptist. The series begins Friday at Jerry Moore Field.
