Harding's Season Ends in GAC Tournament Loss to Tech

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – After a strong start, Harding struggled from the field and fell 74-72 to Arkansas Tech Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Great American Conference Tournament at Bruin Fieldhouse. The game had nine ties and 11 lead changes.

The loss ended Harding's season with a 19-10 record. Arkansas Tech (17-10) advances to the semifinals to meet the winner of Southwestern Oklahoma and Arkansas-Monticello.

Harding tied the game at 66-66 with 1:44 left on two free throws from Carissa Caples. Tech answered with a jumper on the right baseline from Kaley Shipman and led the rest of the way. The Golden Suns made 8 of 10 free throws down the stretch to hold off Harding.

Shipman made a free throw with eight seconds left, but Harding did not get a shot off on its last possession.

Harding led by as many as 12 in the first quarter and shot 43%. The Lady Bisons led 25-19 after one quarter. Harding shot 14 of 49 (29%) the rest of the game.

Two late Harding field goals in the third quarter tied the game at 59-59 entering the fourth.

Harding held a 41-39 lead at halftime. The Lady Bisons appeared to have at least a five-point halftime advantage but Tech's Kaley Shipman banked in a half-court shot at the buzzer to cut the Harding lead to two. Tech shot 44% in the first half to Harding's 36%, but Harding outscored Tech 9-0 at the free-throw line.

Harding shot only 28% in the second quarter, and Tech outscored the Lady Bisons 20-16 in the period. Kylee Coulter had a season-high 15 points in the first half. Kaley Shipman led Tech with 13 points.

Coulter scored Harding's first eight points and had 10 in the first period.

Cheyenne Brown made 10 of 11 free throws and scored 18 points. Coulter finished with 18, and Carissa Caples scored 17.

Shipman led Tech with 23 points.

It was the final game for Harding seniors Brown, Peyton Padgett and Taylor Sims. It was Padgett's 119th game as a Harding player, tying Cindy Camp (1991-95) for the most games ever played by a Lady Bison.
