Harding History: April 2 - Janet Runs, Five Home Runs, Tennis Shutout Run

These events happened on April 2 in Harding sports history:

Women's Track
  • April 2, 2005 – Future Olympian Janet (Kogo) Cherobon-Bawcom broke the Harding record in the 5,000 meters by more than a minute at the Gatorade Classic hosted by Southeast Missouri State. She won in an NCAA automatic time of 16:25.04. Later that year, Kogo won the national championship in both the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters.
Baseball
  • April 2, 2001 – Harding had five home runs from five different hitters in an 8-2 victory over Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas. The Bisons got home runs from Seth Watson, J.D. Noye, Michael Wyant, Grant Andrews and Ben James.
Women's Tennis
  • April 2, 2008 – Harding defeated NCAA Division I Arkansas-Pine Bluff 9-0 for its seventh consecutive shutout victory, the second-longest in program history. It was Harding's 15th victory in an 18-match winning streak. The Lady Bisons finished the season 21-6.
Football Box Score of the Day
  • On October 17, 1970, freshman Alan Dixon rushed for 159 yards on 31 carries and scored Harding's first touchdown in a 27-13 victory over Arkansas-Monticello. Harding gained 445 total yards, including 305 on the ground, in the game played before an afternoon crowd of 3,600 at Alumni Field.​​​​​​​
