Harding Golf Stays Sharp With Intrasquad Match-Play Tournaments

SEARCY – During the fall semester, Harding golf has kept its competitive juices flowing by playing intrasquad match-play tournaments.

The men's tournament has reached the final stages with freshman Sam Tandy already reaching the finals. Tandy defeated junior Jacob Hefley 5&4 in the quarterfinals and upended freshman Lukas Zustak 3&1 in the semifinals.

The other side of the bracket is in the semifinals where freshman Wilf Rush will meet senior Trevor Mellott. Rush had to win twice to reach the semis, defeating Caleb Nichols in 19 holes and Leo Maciejek 1 up. Mellott defeated Ethan Dahl 6&5.

The women's tournament has three of its four semifinal spots sewn up. Freshman Alicia Martinez will meet freshman Brenda Sanchez for a spot in the final. On the other side, senior Kiera Smith defeated Julie Fierro 3&2 to reach the semis where she will meet the winner of Abbey Bryan and Kodie Winnings.

Head coach Dustin Howell also has plans for an intrasquad team tournament and a President's Cup-type event later in the semester.
