Harding Men's Tennis Opens Season with Two Victories

DALLAS - The Harding men's tennis team opened the season on Friday with two victories, defeating Texas-Tyler 6-1 and Texas Permian Basin 7-0. Harding is 2-0 while both Texas-Tyler and Texas Permian Basin fall to 0-1.
 
In the first match of the day, the Bisons swept the doubles competition to take the early 1-0 lead. Dani Ortiz and Arthur Bellan clinched the point with a 6-4 victory in their debut at No. 1 doubles.
 
Bellan secured the second point of the match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles. Ortiz, Alvaro de Lorenzo, Bryce Walker, and Morgan Salvan all scored straight set victories to finish the match.
 
Later in the afternoon, the Bisons swept the doubles competition for the second time of the day. Luis Tirado and Diego Pierola secured the point with a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
 
The Bisons swept the singles competition with Ortiz, Salvan, de Lorenzo, and Walker all picking up their second straight set victories of the day. Milosh Petrovic grabbed his first career singles victory at No. 5 singles by a score of 7-5, 6-3.
 
Salvan's victories were the 54th and 55th of his career, putting him in a tie for 21st in career singles wins in Harding history. Tirado's two doubles victories puts him in the top 20 in career doubles wins.
 
The Bisons were scheduled to play Collin College on Saturday but the match was canceled due to rain.
 
The Bisons look to continue their hot start when they travel to Springfield, Missouri, to face Drury on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m.
