Harding Women's Tennis Splits on Opening Day

DALLAS - The Harding women's tennis team dropped their season opener to Texas-Tyler 5-2, before finishing the day with a 7-0 victory over Texas Permian Basin. Harding is 1-1 while Texas-Tyler is 1-0 and Texas Permian Basin is 0-1.
 
In the first match of the season, the Lady Bisons fell behind early after dropping the doubles point. Romane Britt and Lindy Carpenter were the lone doubles victory, winning 6-2 at No. 2.
 
Harding fell behind 2-0 after a Patriot win at No. 5 singles before Rylie Cox Evans swept 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 to draw within one. The remaining four singles matches all went to three sets with the only other Harding victory coming from Britt at No. 4 singles, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
 
The second match of the day began with the Lady Bisons sweeping the doubles matches. Britt and Lindy Carpenter grabbed their second win of the day while Evans and Hana Folse secure the doubles point with a 6-1 victory at No. 1.
 
The Lady Bisons won all six singles matches in straight sets. Evans won her 16th straight singles match, 6-2, 6-2. Folse, Lina Romero, Lindy Carpenter, and Allison Carpenter all captured their first victories of the season.
 
Folse's doubles win was her 59th and moved her into the top 10 in career doubles wins in Harding history.
 
Saturday's match against Collin College was canceled due to rain.
 
The Lady Bisons will face Drury in Springfield, Missouri, on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m.
