Harding Women's Tennis Upsets No. 13 Angelo State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Harding women's tennis team came from behind to beat the 13th-ranked team in NCAA Division II, Angelo State, 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Ward Tennis Center in Arkadelphia. Senior Hana Folse clinched the victory with a three-set win at No. 3 singles.

It was the second straight victory over a top-25 opponent for Harding after losing its previous 38 matches against top-25 foes. The last such win was a 5-2 victory against No. 22 Northwest Missouri State in the final match last year before COVID-19 caused the cancelation of the rest of the season.

The Lady Bisons dropped all three doubles matches to fall behind 1-0. Romane Britt and Lindy Carpenter dropped their first match of the season at No. 1 doubles, 6-3. Rylie Cox Evans and Hana Folse lost 6-3, and Emily Carpenter and Lina Romero lost 6-2.

Angelo State won the first two singles matches at No. 1 and No. 2. Cox Evans had her 16-match winning streak snapped with a straight-sets loss. Britt got the first point in the match for the Lady Bisons with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.

Emily Carpenter and Lindy Carpenter both secured their first victories of the season with tight matches to level the score at 3-3. Folse completed the comeback with a 7-5, 6-7, 6-4 victory.

Harding's next scheduled match is against Ouachita Baptist in their first conference match of the season on Feb. 24 in Searcy at 2 p.m.
