Walling Leads Harding Men's Cross-Country at Chile Pepper Festival

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Racing against some of the top cross-country teams across all levels of collegiate athletics, the Harding men's cross-country team placed 25th of 36 teams Friday at the McDonnell Memorial College Men 8K, part of the Chile Pepper Cross-Country Festival.

Freshman Luke Walling was Harding's top runner for the third time this season. He placed 83rd (68 points) in 25 minutes, 34.2 seconds. Zouhair Talbi of Oklahoma City won in 23:28.5.

Junior Jackson Pruim placed 118th overall (99 points) and second among Harding runners at 25:59.7. Also scoring for the Bisons were: junior Dylan Douglas (146th, 124 points, 26:18.4), freshman Dylan Mayberry (168th, 141 points, 26:36.6) and sophomore Haydon Spaulding (266th, 211 points, 28:04.2).

Harding's team totaled 643 points. Colorado School of Mines, the No. 1 team in NCAA Division II, won the meet with 39 points. Division II schools Augustana, Western Colorado and Alabama Huntsville followed with the University of Arkansas fifth.

Harding runs again Saturday, Oct. 9 at the UAH Invitational in Huntsville, Alabama. That race will be the final regular season run for the men's team. The Great American Conference Championship is Saturday, Oct. 23 in Searcy.
