The Harding men's soccer secured their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over No. 15 Fort Hays State on Saturday in Hays, Kansas.
Camilo Porto scored the game-winning goal in the 89
th minute. It was the first win in program history over Fort Hays State and the first ever win against a ranked opponent. Harding was previously 0-10 against Fort Hays State and 0-30-1 against ranked opponents.
Harding improves to 1-4-1 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play. Fort Hays State falls to 5-3-1 on the year and 2-1-0 in conference.
Porto's game-winner was his first goal of the season. The Bisons took the early lead off a
Georgios Petousis goal in the 13
th minute from Andre Castano. It was Petousis's first goal of the year and Castano's first assist. The Tigers evened the score in the 72
nd minute when Antonio De La Torre scored his third goal of the season.
Fort Hays State outshot the Bisons 16-9 with seven on goal while the Bisons only had four. Petousis, Castano, and
Josh Fulton all had two shots each for Harding.
Nick Foederer started his fifth game of the year and recorded six saves for the second game in a row.
Seven Bisons played the entire match. Foederer, Petousis,
Stefano Silva,
Jack Savage,
Joseph Terry,
Tyler Sterbenz, and
Manny Fadel played all 90 minutes.
The Bisons will return to Searcy to play their first home game of the season next Thursday October 7, when they face Rogers State at 7 p.m.
