Smithson Scores 20, Harding Falls to Henderson State

SEARCY – Harding sophomore Stetson Smithson came back from a wrist injury to lead the Bisons in scoring for the fourth time this season, but Henderson State pulled away in the second half and defeated Harding 71-49 Saturday in Great American Conference action at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Harding fell to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the GAC. Henderson State won its fourth straight in the series and improved to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in conference.

Smithson connected on a 3-pointer to open the second half and pull Harding to within three points at 31-28. It was all Henderson State from there. The Reddies scored the next eight points and used another 8-0 run later in the half to push their lead to 54-35.

Henderson State shot only 30% in the first half, but improved to 53% in the second half. Harding shot 30% in the first half and 29% after halftime.

Smithson connected on 6-of-12 from the field and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. It was his third 20-point game of the season. Smithson also led the team with eight rebounds.
Harding trailed 31-25 at halftime.

Malik Riddle led Henderson State with 18 points, and Tomislav Miholjcic had 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Harding is back in action on Dec. 30 against East Central in Searcy.
