Henderson State's Fourth-Quarter Rally Sinks Harding

SEARCY – Hannah Collins scored 26 points and Sage Hawley added 24 points and 12 rebounds Saturday to lead Harding, but Henderson State hit three big 3-pointers midway through the fourth quarter and defeated the Lady Bisons 82-78 in Great American Conference play at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

The fourth-quarter threes were part of a 13-2 run that gave the Reddies an eight-point lead after they trailed by three early in the quarter.

The loss was Harding's first at home this season and dropped the Lady Bisons to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the GAC. Henderson State won for the seventh time in their last eight games and moved to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in conference.

Henderson State had three players score 20 or more points. Gracie Raby and Ashley Farrar scored 21 each, and Sonni Martin had 20.

Harding scored 11 of its 22 third-quarter points at the free-throw line and led 54-50 after three.

Jadah Pickens hit the first of the three 3-pointers with 6:41 left in the game and gave Henderson State the lead for good. Farrar and Lani Snowden both hit 3s with just under five minutes left to push the Reddies' lead to 68-60. Henderson State made eight free throws in the final two minutes to hold off Harding.

Hawley scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the first quarter, and the Lady Bisons used a 10-0 run to take a 20-12 lead after one. Hawley's double-double was her seventh of the season.

Henderson State did not have a field goal for the final 4:39 of the first quarter, but opened the second quarter on a 15-2 run and led 27-22 with 4:19 left before the break.

Harding shot only 2 of 12 from the field in the second quarter but made all eight of its free-throw attempts and led 32-30 at halftime despite going more than seven minutes during the period without a basket.

Harding returns to action Thursday, Dec. 30 against East Central in Searcy.
