Henderson State Scoring Runs Sink Harding

ARKADELPHIA – Henderson State used two large scoring runs, one in each half, to erase an early Harding lead and defeat the Bisons 82-62 Thursday in Great American Conference men's action at the Duke Wells Center.

Harding fell to 4-9 overall and in the GAC with the loss. The Bisons conclude the regular season Saturday against Southern Arkansas in Magnolia.

Henderson State, who will be the No. 3 seed from the GAC East Division, improved to 9-7 overall and in conference, winning its fourth straight.

"They imposed their will in the paint," Harding head coach Jeff Morgan said. "They were very intent on getting to the rim, and we were way too perimeter oriented."

Harding got off to a great start, using a 12-0 run to pull out to a 17-5 lead. Romio Harvey scored 13 of Harding's first 17 points.

"We got some good perimeter looks and made the shots early," Morgan said. "We have to offset that by getting something from the inside, and we were not able to get that."

Following a timeout, Henderson State came back with 18 straight points and led 23-17 with 9:58 left. A 9-0 Reddie run later in the half gave Henderson State at 36-24 lead, its largest of the half.

Harding closed the gap to 40-33 at halftime.

The biggest change for the Reddies during the 18-0 run was in transition. Henderson State outscored Harding 12-0 on fast-break points in the half.

Harvey had more than half of Harding's point total in the first half, scoring 17 on 6-of-12 shooting.

Henderson State started the second half on a 10-0 run that extended to a 21-4 spurt. The Reddies made their first six attempts and shot 62% in the half.

Ramiro Santiago made four 3-pointers and scored 12 of his 17 points in the second half.

Raekwon Rogers led Henderson State with 14 points.
