INDIANAPOLIS – Members of the Harding indoor track and field team hoping to qualify for the national meet or improve their chances for qualification competed Saturday at the UIndy Last Chance Meet at the Athletics and Recreation Center on the campus of the University of Indianapolis.
Harding freshman Dorian Chaigneau became the first Bison to qualify automatically for the national meet by clearing 5.23 meters (17-01.75). He broke his own school record by clearing the bar on his first attempt.
Teammate Ben Ferris also topped his personal best, clearing 5.00 meters (16-04.75), an NCAA provisional height.
Harding recorded another provisional in the 800 meters. Freshman Thibault Waeles placed third in the race in a personal-best 1:53.74.
Harding had three women's athletes in action Saturday. Senior Kinga Szarzynska placed second in the 800 meters in 2:16.69, and freshman Celia Stramrood was third in 2:22.78. Stramrood's time was a personal best, but neither reached the NCAA provisional standard.
In the pole vault, Harding sophomore Sierra White placed fifth with a clearance of 3.68 meters (12-00.75). It was off her season best clearance of 3.76 meters at Central Missouri on Jan. 22.
Harding will have more athletes in action Sunday in Indianapolis.
