MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas took the lead early against Harding and led the rest of the way in a 88-76 victory over the Lady Bisons Saturday in Great American Conference action at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center.
Harding's loss was its fourth straight, and the Lady Bisons ended the regular season with a 6-7 conference record. Harding will be the No. 3 seed in the East Division in the GAC Tournament, which begins Monday on campus sites. Harding will host No. 6 seed Arkansas-Monticello at 5:30 p.m.
Southern Arkansas finished the regular season 4-9 overall and 3-9 in conference. The Muleriders will be the No. 5 seed and will play at No. 4 Ouachita Baptist on Monday.
Harding led 4-0 early, but Southern Arkansas scored the next nine points and led the rest of the way. The lead ballooned to as many as 20 early in the fourth quarter. Harding closed to within 11 points late in the fourth but got no closer.
"We left a lot of stuff out there on the floor," Harding head coach Tim Kirby said. "Then we lost our minds a little bit against the press. The frantic pace makes you make hurried decisions."
Harding had five players score 10 or more points. Carissa Caples led the Lady Bisons with 15 points, and Hannah Collins had 14. Kellie Lampo added 11, and Jacie Evans and Kennedy Cooper had 10 each.
Diamond Morris led Southern Arkansas with 17 points.
