Hipshire Breaks Harding Heptathlon Record at Northwest Missouri

MARYVILLE, Missouri – Harding senior Matt Hipshire broke his own school record and finished fourth of 18 athletes in the heptathlon Friday and Saturday at the Bearcat Open, hosted by Northwest Missouri State University.

Hipshire, a native of Ferris, Texas, scored 4,804 points, breaking the record he set in 2020 at Missouri Southern. His score ranks 16th nationally in Division II but is just short of the NCAA provisional standard of 4,843.

Harding freshman Zalen Robinson placed sixth with 4,173 points, and junior Moses Rivera placed seventh with a career-best score of 3,899 points.

Hipshire scored more than 500 points in all seven events. He set new personal bests in the shot put (11.29m/37-00.50), pole vault (4.55m/14-11) and 1,000 meters (2:49.09).
