Bradshaw Leads Baseball Bisons to Shutout Win at Oklahoma Baptist

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Harding senior pitchers Andrew Bradshaw and Ryder Yakel combined on a three-hit shutout Friday in a 3-0 victory over Oklahoma Baptist in Great American Conference play at Ford Park.

With the win, Harding improved to 9-3 overall and 7-3 in the GAC, tied with Oklahoma Baptist (8-6, 7-3) for second place, one game behind leader Arkansas Tech.

Games two and three of the Harding-Oklahoma Baptist series are Saturday beginning at noon.

Bradshaw (3-1) pitched seven innings, giving up only two hits and not allowing a runner past second base. He struck out only one batter but allowed the GAC's top-ranked defense to do its work. Harding's defense recorded nine fly ball outs and 10 ground ball outs behind Bradshaw without an error.

It was the fifth time in the last six games Harding did not commit an error on defense.

Harding took the lead in the top of the first, sending seven batters to the plate without putting the ball in play. Oklahoma Baptist starter Jake Lipetzky (2-2) walked four hitters in the inning, including Cody Smith with the bases loaded, to force in Michael Chrisman. The other three Harding batters in the first struck out looking.

Bradshaw was in control from there. He gave up a single to Kaimana Bartolome in the bottom of the first and Walker Keller in the fourth, but that was it for Oklahoma Baptist.

Harding doubled its lead in the top of the eighth. Harrison Hefley walked with one out, moved to second on a ground out and scored on Smith's single to center to make it 2-0.

Yakel entered in the bottom of the eighth and retired Oklahoma Baptist in order.

Owen Martin pinch hit in the top of the ninth and doubled. He scored three batters later on Connor Kelly's single to center.

Yakel gave up a walk and a single in the bottom of the ninth but induced a pop up with the tying run at bat to end the game and record his second save.

Harding had a season-low four hits but drew nine walks. Kelly and Smith both had a hit and two walks.

Chrisman, Heffley and David Butterfield each had hits in Harding's first 11 games but went hitless Friday.
