Baseball Bisons Split Doubleheader at Northwestern Oklahoma

ALVA, Okla. – Both starters Saturday for Harding pitched complete games, but the Bisons split a Great American Conference doubleheader against Northwestern Oklahoma. Harding won the opener 7-1, but fell 1-0 in game two. The series finale is Sunday at 1 p.m.

Harding (16-12, 12-11) put on a power display in game one, hitting three home runs. It was the third time this season Harding homered three times in a game.

Brendan Perrett hit a two-run blast in the third inning, his second of the season.

David Butterfield led off the six with a solo home run, his fourth of the season. In the eighth, Harrison Heffley hit his team-leading sixth home run, another two-run shot.

Ty Hoecker (3-3) was masterful on the mound for the Bisons. He pitched Harding's first nine-inning complete game of the season, allowing only four hits and one earned run on a solo homer in the seventh.

Every hitter in Harding's lineup had at least one hit. Michael Chrisman went 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI. It was his fifth straight multiple-hit game. Connor Kelly had two hits.

In game two, scheduled for seven innings, Kelly was the only Harding batter with a hit and it did not come until the seventh inning off Northwestern Oklahoma starter Ethan Swanson.

As good as Swanson was, Harding's Ryder Yakel, making his first start ever for the Bisons, was just as good.

The game was scoreless through seven innings. In the bottom of the eighth, Yakel (3-1) retired the first two hitters before allowing three consecutive singles. The third hit came from Daschal Johnson and scored Preston Lonadier with the game-winning run.
