The Harding men's tennis team fell in a back and forth match to No. 11 Delta State, 4-3 on Saturday at the Elliott Tennis Center. The Bisons fell to 9-6 on the season while Delta State improved to 14-3.
The Bisons jumped out to an early lead, winning the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
Dani Ortiz and
Arthur Bellan fell behind 0-4 before winning the next six games to take the set 6-4 at No. 2.
Luis Tirado and
Diego Pierola also won 6-4 at No. 3.
The Statesmen grabbed the first three singles matches at No. 1, No. 5, and No. 6.
Luis Tirado won his fifth straight match of the season with a straight set, 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3. With the Bisons needing to win the remaining two matches,
Morgan Salvan pushed his opponent to a tiebreak in the second set before falling 6-7, 6-7 at No. 4 to give Delta State the clinching win.
Arthur Bellan won the final match of the day with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 win at No. 2.
The Bisons will play next in the MIAA Tournament on May 1. The time of the match is still to be determined.
