Harding Women’s Tennis defeats Blue Mountain 5-2

The Harding women's tennis team beat NAIA opponent Blue Mountain College 5-2 on Thursday at the Elliott Tennis Center. The Lady Bisons improved to 10-2 on the season while the Lady Toppers fell to 4-8.

With the Lady Toppers only having five available players for the match, the Lady Bisons needed just one win in doubles after a win by default at No. 3. Romane Britt and Lindy Carpenter played in the No. 1 spot for only the second time this season and won their sixth straight match 6-1, securing the doubles point. Allison Jenkins made her season debut, partnering with Allison Carpenter for a 6-3 win at No. 2.

The Lady Bisons led 2-0 at the beginning of singles competition because of a win by default in the No. 6 spot. Rylie Cox Evans won at No. 1 6-1. 6-2. The win was Cox Evans's third straight victory and 50th career singles victory at Harding. Emily Carpenter snapped a four-match losing streak at No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-1 win, to secure the match victory. Jenkins fell in a third set tiebreaker at No. 3 before Alice Ovcharova won her first collegiate match at No. 5, 6-2, 7-5. Joee Crocker also made her season debut but fell at No. 4 singles.

The Lady Bisons will return to the court this weekend with two conference matches in Oklahoma. They will face Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and Southeastern Oklahoma State on Sunday at 10 a.m.
