Nicole Shano’s Grand Slam Leads Harding Softball to Victory

SEARCY – The Harding softball team won its 12th game in a row Thursday after it defeated Southeastern Oklahoma 5-2 in Great American Conference action at the Harding Softball Field.

The series against Southeastern Oklahoma was scheduled to be played Feb. 26-27 but was postponed due to COVID.

Harding improves to 31-11 overall and 21-9 in the GAC. It is the sixth time since the program restarted in 2014 that Harding has won 30 or more games in a season.

With two games left in the regular season, the Lady Bisons sit alone in third place in the GAC standings. The Lady Bisons will be fighting for seeding in the upcoming GAC Tournament May 14-15 in Bentonville, Arkansas.

Southeastern Oklahoma falls to 23-7 overall and 19-5 in the GAC.


Key Innings (Harding 5, Southeastern Okla. 2)

-         B2 – After a double by Jordan Cabana, Amanda Fields drove her in when she singled up the middle (Harding 1, East Central 0)

-         B2 – After two singles and an error on a sacrifice bunt, the bases were loaded for Nicole Shano. With a 3-1 count, Shano hit a no-doubter grand slam to left field. It was her second grand slam and her seventh home run of the season. (Harding 5, Southeastern Okla. 0)

-         T7 – Peyton Streetman broke up the no-hitter when she led off the inning with a single to left. The next batter, Cheyenne Mahy, hit a home run to left field (Harding 5, Southeastern Okla. 2)

 
Key Statistics

-         Harding had eight hits with Ashton Bryce, Jordan Cabana and Madison Fraley all having two.

-         Southeastern Oklahoma had three hits by three different players.

-         Lily Tanski got the win for Harding and improved to 20-6 on the season. She is the first Harding pitcher since 2017 to reach 20 wins in a season. Autumn Humes and Hannah Johnson both had over 20 wins in 2017. Humes has Harding's record with 33 wins and Johnson had 24 wins.

-         Tanski had a no-hitter going through six innings. She didn't allow a walk and struck out three. It was also her 17th complete game of the season.

-         Cheyenne Mahy received the loss for Southeastern Oklahoma and falls to 16-3 on the season.

-          The two teams will wrap up their three-game series with a doubleheader Friday starting at noon.
