Second Half Scoring Run Sends Oklahoma Baptist Past Harding

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist made a season-high 11 3-pointers and scored 20 straight points over a seven-minute stretch of the second half to defeat Harding 83-62 Thursday in Great American Conference men's basketball action at the Noble Complex.

Harding (4-9, 2-5) played without guards Dorian Benkovic and Ramiro Santiago and head coach Jeff Morgan, all out due to illness. Assistant coach Ray Lynn Woods manned the sidelines for the Bisons.

Oklahoma Baptist (8-4, 5-1) won for the fifth straight time in the series and topped the 80-point barrier for the third straight game.

Harding trailed 35-32 at halftime. The Bisons led 17-5 early but Oklahoma Baptist made six 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes and took the lead late in the half.

Harding's Stetson Smithson hit a jumper with 18:09 left in the game to cut Oklahoma Baptist's lead to 39-38. The Bisons did not have another field goal until Jordan West's 3-pointer with 7:21 left. Oklahoma Baptist made four 3-pointers during the 20-0 run, while Harding missed nine consecutive shots.

Taylor Currie led Harding with 13 points and 12 rebounds, his third double-double of the season and second in his last three games. Sam Henderson started for the first time and scored 10. Davis Morgan made three 3-pointers and scored nine, and Smithson also added nine points.

Harding made nine 3-pointers and all five of its free-throw attempts.

Oklahoma Baptist's Burke Putnam, the GAC's leading scorer at 22.0 points per game, had 18 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Jaquan Simmons made five 3-pointers and led Oklahoma Baptist with 20 points.

Harding plays the back end of its Oklahoma road trip Saturday against Southern Nazarene. Tip-off is at 3 p.m.
