Harding Falls in Low-Scoring Game at Southern Nazarene

BETHANY, Okla. – A season-low scoring output by the Harding women's basketball team resulted in a 66-51 loss to Southern Nazarene Saturday in Great American Conference play at the Sawyer Center.

Harding has now alternated wins and losses for its first eight conference games and is 8-5 overall and 4-4 in the GAC. Southern Nazarene won for the fourth straight time between the teams in games played in Bethany and improved to 8-5 overall and 3-3 in conference.

Southern Nazarene has held nine of its 12 opponents to fewer than 60 points. Harding's previous season-low scoring total was 60 in a loss at Ouachita Baptist.

Harding shot well in the first quarter (46%) and the third quarter (50%), but shot only 1 of 13 in the second quarter and 4 of 14 in the fourth.

Harding trailed 16-14 after one, but the poor-shooting second quarter left the Lady Bisons trailing 27-18 at halftime.

Harding shot well in the third quarter, hitting 7 of 14 shots, including a 3-pointer from Hannah Collins, but Southern Nazarene extended its lead to 43-33 in the period. The Crimson Storm could have built a larger lead but shot only 4 of 12 at the free-throw line in the quarter. Harding did not shoot a third quarter free throw.

Collins led Harding with 13 points, and Sage Hawley, who battled foul trouble throughout the game, scored 12 points.

Abby Niehues led Southern Nazarene with 18 points and 15 rebounds.

Harding returns to action Thursday at home against Arkansas Tech.
