Harding Comebacks Fall Short to Missouri Southern

SEARCY – Harding's women battled from behind four times to tie 19th-ranked Missouri Southern but fell 68-66 Saturday on the second night of the GAC/MIAA Challenge at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

The loss dropped Harding to 0-2 with the two losses coming from a combined three points. The Lady Bisons play their next five games away from home before opening Great American Conference play at home against Ouachita Baptist on Dec. 1.

Harding trailed 65-59 with 2:27 left. Rory Geer hit a jumper from the baseline at the two-minute mark, and Kendrick Bailey drained a long 3-pointer from beyond the top of the key to cut the advantage to 65-64.

After a Missouri Southern basket, Aubrey Isbell scored on a driving left-handed layup and the Lady Bisons trailed 67-66. Harding fouled with 9.1 seconds left and Missouri Southern hit one of two free throws.

Harding took possession down 68-66 with 8.1 seconds remaining, but the shot attempt came up short.

Sage Hawley led Harding with 17 points and eight rebounds. Jacie Evans had 15 points and led the team with nine rebounds and four assists. Bailey made three of Harding's five 3-pointers and scored 12.

Harding trailed 14-0 after the game's first six minutes, but outscored Missouri Southern 13-6 over the next 5:23 and trailed 20-13 after one period. Jacie Evans scored 10 of Harding's points in the quarter.

Harding came all the way back and tied the game three times in the second quarter. A late 9-0 run in the period capped by Kendrick Bailey's 3-pointer with 33 seconds left knotted the game at 35-35.

Missouri Southern hit a 3-pointer from the wing at the halftime buzzer and led the game 38-35 at the break.

A 10-2 Missouri Southern run over four minutes in the third quarter had the Lions ahead 50-38. Harding scored the next seven points, and Geer's layup with a second left Harding trailing only 52-47 entering the fourth.

Harding's next action is Tuesday, Nov. 15 against Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma.
