Second Half Run Sends Southern Nazarene Past Harding

SEARCY – Southern Nazarene held Harding scoreless over an eight-minute stretch of the second half and defeated the Bisons 62-46 in Great American Conference men's basketball action at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

The loss dropped the Bisons to 4-18 overall and 2-14 in conference. Southern Nazarene won for the 12th time in its last 13 games and won its seventh straight road game. The Crimson Storm remained among the top three in the GAC at 16-6 overall and 11-5 in conference.

The key stretch of the second half came after Harding's Sam Henderson made a layup with 13:50 left to pull the Bisons within three points at 40-37.

Harding missed its next nine shots over the next eight minutes, and Southern Nazarene scored 15 consecutive points to take a 55-37 lead with 6:16 left.

Henderson ended the run with a layup at the 5:50 mark. The Bisons closed to within 11 points, but the Crimson Storm scored five straight to pull away.

Harding held its third consecutive conference opponent to fewer than 70 points for the first time since Feb. 2016.

Both teams shot poorly in the first half, Harding at 35% and Southern Nazarene at 38%.

Taylor Currie led Harding with 13 points, and Emir Ahmedic came off the bench to score a season-high 10 points. Stetson Smithson had 10 rebounds.

Manny Dixon and Tyler McGhie led Southern Nazarene with 18 points each.

Harding returns to the Rhodes-Reaves Field House Saturday against GAC leader Oklahoma Baptist.
