The Harding women's tennis team played their second and final match in Springfield, Missouri of the weekend and lost to Nebraska-Kearney 6-1 at the Cooper Tennis Complex. Nebraska-Kearney improves to 4-1 on the season, while the Lady Bisons fall to 1-2.
The Lopers grabbed a 1-0 lead with three wins in the doubles competition.
Grace Dodd and
Jing Jing Yang fell at No. 1, 3-6 while
Allison Carpenter and
Emily Carpenter fell in a tight match at No. 3, 4-6.
Romane Britt and
Lindy Carpenter moved to the No. 2 line for the Lady Bisons but fell 1-6.
In singles action,
Allison Carpenter scored the lone point of the match for the Lady Bisons. Carpenter took down the No. 15 ranked singles player in the Central Region, Alexis Bernthal, in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-3 for her fourth straight win. Britt fell in the lone three-set match of the day at No. 3, 6-7, 6-1, 3-6.
In a battle of ranked singles players, Dodd, the No. 12 ranked singles player in the Central Region fell to the No. 9 ranked player at No. 1, 3-6, 7-6. In the remaining three matches, the Lopers won all six sets.
The Lady Bisons will return to action next weekend in Dallas, Texas for four matches, with the first against Texas-Tyler at 10 a.m. on Friday February 18.
