Bisons Fall in Finale at Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State made a season-high 15 3-pointers and defeated Harding 90-72 Saturday in Great American Conference action at the Duke Wells Center.

Harding concluded the 2021-22 season with a 7-21 overall record and a 5-17 mark in the GAC. The Bisons did not qualify for next week's GAC Tournament in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Henderson State improved to 17-11 overall and 13-9 in conference. The Reddies will be the tournament's No. 5 seed.

Sam Henderson led Harding with a career-high 20 points. He made 7 of 13 shots, including 6 of 10 from 3-point range. Taylor Currie added 16 points and eight rebounds, and graduating senior Romen Martin scored 15 points.

Henderson State had five players in double figures, led by Quawn Marshall with 15 points.

Harding trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half, but a late 7-0 run trimmed Henderson State's lead to 45-40 at halftime. The Reddies, who average only 6.5 3-pointers per game, made eight in the first half.

Harding got 12 points from Martin in the half. He made all six of his free-throw attempts. Sam Henderson made three 3-pointers and scored 11.

Henderson State shot 52% in the half and held a 12-2 advantage on fast breaks.

Harding scored the first four points of the second half, but Henderson State responded by scoring the next eight and led 53-44 with 17:15 left.

The Bisons got within three again at 55-52 on a Sam Henderson 3, but a 17-2 Henderson State run pushed the lead back to 72-54 with 8:21 left. The Reddies' advantage swelled to 20 on a Yuri Swinford layup with 6:43 remaining.

It was the final game for Harding seniors Romen Martin, Emir Ahmedic, Collier Blackburn and Tyler Moore.
