Harding Baseball Splits Shutouts Monday Against Southeastern Oklahoma

SEARCY – Harding and Southeastern Oklahoma split a pair of shutouts Monday in Great American Conference play at Jerry Moore Field. The Savage Storm won the opener 2-0 with Harding taking game two 4-0.

Harding moved to 10-3 overall and 4-2 in conference, and Southeastern is 11-4 overall and 4-2 in the GAC.

The Bisons do not have a midweek game this week and continue GAC play next weekend at home against Ouachita Baptist.

GAME 1 – Southeastern Okla. 2, Harding 0
In game one, five Southeastern pitchers combined for the Storm's second shutout of the season.

Harding starter, sophomore Maddox Long (2-1), was solid on the mound for the Bisons. Long went six innings and allowed only three hits and one earned run with a walk and three strikeouts.

At the plate, junior Coulton Doyle went 3-for-4 with a double. Senior Chris Witzke notched his third triple of the season, and junior Cooper Jauz drew three walks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Harding went 0-of-11 with runners in scoring position and had only one runner reach third base.

Southeastern took a 1-0 lead in the third on a Reid Rice RBI single. Cameron French supplied the second run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

GAME NOTES
•    Doyle had two singles and his third double of the season … it was his sixth multi-hit game of the season and second game with three or more hits.
•    Long threw 89 pitches, 55 for strikes … he lowered his season ERA to 1.73 … it was his second straight outing of six innings or longer with one earned run allowed.

Game 2 – Harding 4, Southeastern Okla. 0
Senior Joel Barker (3-1) hurled a three-hit shutout, Harding's first of the season, earning the victory in game two.

Six different players had a hit for Harding, with both David Butterfield and Drew McNeel providing two-run singles to accounting for all of Harding's scoring.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Harding scored all four of its runs in the fourth inning on a walk and four singles. Owen Martin walked to lead off the inning and went to third on Chris Witzke's single. Witzke moved to second on a wild pitch, and both runners scored on Butterfield's line drive through the right side.

Michael Dewald had Harding's third single of the inning, sending Butterfield to third. Dewald stole second, and both runners scored on McNeel's liner to left center.
